Remember Who Your Audience Is

Many people, especially those new to internet marketing, make the nearly fatal mistake of designing and writing copy for themselves. They have forgotten who their audience is and this means that their message is off target and will cost them sales.

There are basically three types of people in internet marketing.

The first is the marketer who is sure they understand the market but when it comes down to brass tacks, they understand what they think looks, sounds and reads good yet don’t really know what the people they are trying to market to like or dislike about their copy.

Second is the seasoned internet marketers. Used to dealing with internet marketers on a daily basis and are used to being approached with hard sell tactics, often seeing tactics for what they are because they’ve used them in their own campaigns.

Third is Joe Sixpack. He is subjected to soft sell advertising almost constantly. He’s used to seeing advertising, frequently knows basically what he wants when he goes looking for something. If you can write decent copy that talks about the benefit points of your product and how they can help take care of Joe’s needs, you have a decent chance of a sale from the minute Joe hits your page.
