Joey B. has always had a bad habit of not speaking clearly. People have been mistaking what he said for that they think it sounded like for years. This has resulted in a cloud of confusion following him everywhere and a trail of puzzeled people in his wake.
One good example happened just the other day at the Nutjob Hills Diner. He was talking to a friend and asked a question. What Freddy heard was the words Fender Mustang. Freddy being a mechanic thought that Joey was asking where to get a fender for a Ford Mustang and he told Joey that he should look at Bobby M’s Junkyard and shoe shop.
At this point Joey was the one who was confused. His immediate response ways “Huh?” Freddy told him that Bobby has the best selection of auto parts in this part of the state. If anybody were to have a Mustang fender then he’d be the one.
“No no no, ” Joey interrupted him. “I”m talking about a Fender Mustang guitar.” he explained. “I need one because Mom said I need to take guitar lessons if I want to play in her bridge club band and she said that was a good one to learn on.”
They went back and forth for a few minutes exchanging bits of clarifying information and such but that’s the gist of it.
The sad thing is that if Joey were to ever spend some time with somebody who could teach him the value of speaking clearly this kind of thing would stop and he’d have a lot less confusion around him. As it is, he’s reached the point where there are plenty of people who will go out of their way to avoid having him talk to them because they can never understand what he’s saying.
