Pronunciation Is Key

I’ve always been big on pronouncing things correctly. So much so that when I hear somebody use incorrect pronunciation it grates on my nerves something fierce. The problem there is that most people are very sloppy with how they pronounce words and names. It’s really quite a wonder that they can communicate at all.

For example a few days ago I was at the Nutjob Hills Diner when Joey came in. He was talking excitedly about how he had gotten a shoe in a hut for Christmas. He’d gotten it early because there was no easy way to wrap it and that you couldn’t easily put one under the tree.

I knew right off that he couldn’t possibly be talking about some kind of shoe related gift. Questioning him a bit revealed that he had gotten a schoenhut baby grand piano, not some strange shoe thing in a hut thing.

Some day this thing most people have with badly pronouncing things is going to start a war because of something someone *thought* somebody else said.

In fact, I’d almost bet that it’s happened before.
