Making money online is NOT an easy walk in the park. If it were then I’d have made a fortune by now. There’s a lot of people out there trying to make money and most of them end up failing completely. Part of the reason often turns out to be that they’ve been convinced that certain myths about internet marketing are true.
1st Myth: Internet Marketing is EASY
Too many people approach the prospect of making money online with the idea that it’s a “set it and forget it” kind of thing and nothing could be farther from the truth. it takes time, effort and you’re going to have to spend some money at least for advertising & web space. The days of throwing a free site up on a site like tripod and making a bundle off of it are long gone and nearly forgotten.
It’s true that it is comparatively easier than starting a brick and mortar business because there’s no inventory to deal with, little or no shipping involved and you won’t need a call center filled with a couple dozen sales people, Etc. Etc but there’s still a lot of work involved.
2nd Myth: ANYONE Can Make Money Online
This one is half true. Specifically I believe that anyone CAN make money online but very few WILL make significant money online. It all depends on how much work they’re willing to put into it and how much they’re willing to learn. Contrary to popular belief, Internet marketing is not a lazy man’s business.
3rd Myth: You Can “Get Rich Overnight” with internet marketing.
Unless you’re an absolute natural and manage to pick the perfect product and put just the right promotional efforts behind it, getting rich overnight just isn’t going to happen, period.
Scammers make it sound so easy, promising you all kinds of instant riches if only you’ll buy into their $97 a month membership site where you’ll find all the secrets of the money making universe. (then once you’re in you find out they’re feeding you the same tripe that everybody else is selling for $97 a month!)
Chasing any get rich quick scheme is a complete waste of your time and resources. How can you spot a scam like this? Well, first a good rule to remember is that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Second, as you learn what it is the plan requires doing, ask yourself if you’d feel comfortable explaining it to one of those great BS detectors, a young child. Most young kids have an almost innate sense of right and wrong and they can spot a line of bullsh*t a mile away at night with sunglasses on. If you can’t explain it without having to come up with all kinds of justifications and feeling uncomfortable when the kid starts asking “why?”, then you’re probably looking at a load of crap.
The final myth I’ll touch on here is: Doing business online is FREE!
