Get The Visitors Attention

Do you have an offer that you want to be sure people see? Perhaps you’re running a contest and you want to make sure that all your visitors see the announcement link so they can find out the details and enter.

Maybe you have a business site and you’re announcing a special discount on something or you want to make sure your readers know about your upcoming product launch… the list of possibilities goes on and on.

The thing you want to do is get your visitors attention right away. The best way to do that is to make sure that this is one of the first things they see as your blog loads, before all of the rest of your content.

MaxBlogPress Stripe Ad is a really handy, FREE, plugin for WordPress blogs that does a great job of handling this situation.

If you write it, they will click

All you need to do is write a line of text that presents a call to action for readers to click on the link and find out more about your offer or announcement. You don’t actually want it to be very long for two reasons.

1). It needs to fit comfortably in the single line of space at the top of the page.

2). It needs to be something that someone can read and decide to click on in only a few seconds.

What MaxBlogPress Stripe Ad does is put that single line of text in a stripe across the top of the page and link it with the url that you specify for a page that gives them more information or presents an offer.

Easy as pie

Once you get this FREE plugin installed and registered (no tricks there, the registration is free too), All you need to do is:

1). Put your line of text in one box

2). Put the link with more information and / or the offer in another box

3). There’s a check box in case you want the link to open in a new window (So people don’t have to leave your site to look at it … kinda important don’tcha think?).

4). Finally there is a dropdown to set the “weight” of that particular stripe.

5). Click “save” and you’re done.

Now load your blog and there’s your message in a neat little stripe at the top of the page, out of the way of your content.

Sometimes One isn’t enough

What’s cool about MaxBlogPress Stripe Ad is that you don’t have to stop at just one. You can enter as many text and link commbinations as you want and the plugin will automatically rotate them, showing one at random every time your blog loads.

This is where the “weight” setting comes in. If you’ve got two stripe ads defined but you want stripe 1 to run twice as much as stripe 2, all you need to do is set the weight of stripe 1 to a value of 2.

As you can see at the top of BlogDoofus, I’ve begun using this plugin myself and I have to say that I highly recommend the MaxBlogPress Stripe Ad plugin as a very handy, easy to use tool for putting an ad up where people can see it without being as obnoxios as the popup windows that I think we’ve all grown to hate.
