Cold blast that is. According to the local weather forecast we’re supposed to be seeing our temps drop into the single digits tonight and snow should start falling sometime later tonight.
The weather radar isn’t showing more than a few scattered traces of the approaching snow so far but I expect that to change big time as the day progresses.
So, I’ve been doing all the things you’re supposed to do to get ready for a storm that could end up making travel all but impossible for a week or more… stocking up on supplies, making sure I’ve got some ice melter for the driveway, Etc…
My neighbor doesn’t seem to get that this is serious business. He wasn’t here last year for the ice storm that knocked out power for over two effing weeks! And he doesn’t seem to understand, no matter how much I (or anybody else) tries to warn him. He just sits there smoking his discount cigar, nodding his head and saying “but his is Arkansas, winter isn’t as bad here as it is up north.”
Well, that may be true but we still get killing cold and have the occasional winter storm that leaves the roads impassable, car batteries dead and will often lead to downed power and phone lines. Last year things got so bad that even a cell phone did you no good because most of the cell towers were either down or didn’t have power to operate.
This guy just doesn’t get the real meaning of “rural” and still acts and thinks like he’s in a big city when in truth, the nearest “big city” is 90 miles away.
Why do I get the feeling that he’s gonna learn the hard way in the next week or two?
