All was quiet a few days ago when Mr. Helpful showed up unexpectedly (not that I ever really “expect” him.) to announce to me that he had discovered something that I needed to know about. Knowing that my idea of what I need to know about nearly always differs from his, I had a brief lull in work so I let him go ahead.
He proceeded to tell me that he had solved an age old problem and come up with a genuine, safe, effective hair loss cure. According to his theory, the reason that most men lose some or all of their hair as they get older is because their follicles are frustrated. The source of the frustration is haircuts.
Apparently the reason that people’s hair starts falling out is that the follicles get frustrated because they work so hard for years producing new hair growth only to have it cut off on a semi regular basis and that after enough years the frustration gets so bad that the follicles simply shut down and stop working.
(I can almost picture a cartoon hair follicle holding it’s breath and turning blue)
He suggested that the main reason that I haven’t had a hair loss problem is because I haven’t been getting more than one or two haircuts a year for the past decade or so. I told him I would think about what he said but that I had to get back to work.
As he left I made a note to make an appointment to get my hair cut. He’d managed, without intending, to remind me that I was definitely overdue.
