School Sure Has Changed

It’s amazing how much school has changed in the thirty years or so since I graduated. For example, back then it was kind of a big deal just to be permitted to drive to school in your last two years of high school. Now most kids, whether they drive or not (and usually long before they’re old enough to drive) carry phones with them to class.

Another thing is that these days it’s common for kids even in grade school to carry computers with them. It’s so common that many now have student laptop insurance policies that cover the machines they take to school. In my day I remember that it was a big deal to be permitted to use an electronic calculator in class. Even when you did it wasn’t anything remotely like the programmable graphing calculators around today, they were just basic four function calculators. If you were lucky you had a square root and percent function. Most didn’t.

Yeah, I know, I sound like the guy that tells kids that he used to walk five miles to school and that it was uphill both ways.

Well, I’ve got news for you.

I did and It really was uphill both ways!
