Avoiding The High Cost Of Propane

Like a lot of homes in the south mine is heated by propane. While this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it is rapidly becoming a serious downside. The reason is because of the price of the stuff.

These days propane is in the neighborhood of fifty cents a gallon under the price of gasoline and every year it goes up. As a result, I’ve looked into other ways to stay warm in the winter. One of which involves just getting an electric blanket. In fact, I would actually get two of them. One I would use in the traditional manner as a cover when sleeping.

The other I would have shaped into a robe that I would wear during the day. That way I could cut my propane use nearly in half by turning the thermostat down to forty degrees. Just high enough to keep the pipes from freezing during the worst of the cold weather.

The problem is in getting an electric blanket stitched into a robe shape without shorting out the heating elements and making it a hazard to wear.
